Development designed for the realities of today’s workplace

Workplaces are rarely as straightforward as the org chart makes it look.

Anytime you bring a group of humans together, things are going to get a little complicated. And the challenge on paper isn’t always the real challenge.

Expectations aren’t always clearly stated. A talented employee can be struggling in ways that are hard to put a finger on. A new manager may know exactly what they should do and still have a hard time doing it when a real person is sitting across from them.

I take the time to understand that context: the person, the organization, what’s expected, what’s getting in the way, and what meaningful growth would actually look like.

Effective development starts with understanding what’s really going on.

Development built around your people

I tailor the approach to your people, what they need to accomplish, and the realities of your organization. The work may focus on one person, a team, or a broader group within the organization.

Depending on the need, that may include coaching, practical skill development, facilitated learning, or other tools and approaches.

Real workplace situations become part of the development process, creating opportunities to practice, reflect, adjust, and build new ways of working over time.

1:1 Coaching
Individualized development that gives people space to look more closely at how they work, lead, and respond to the situations they’re navigating. Coaching helps uncover patterns, challenge assumptions, build greater self-awareness, and take greater ownership of their choices and impact. This creates the opportunity to shift long-standing behaviors, approach challenges differently, strengthen relationships, and become more effective in how they work and lead.

Team Workshops & Facilitated Development
Interactive learning and facilitated conversations designed around what a team is working through. This can include building shared skills, strengthening communication and collaboration, navigating team dynamics, or creating greater alignment around how people work together.

Practical Skill Development
Focused learning and practice around skills such as communication, feedback, delegation, accountability, conflict, collaboration, boundaries, and people management. I introduce practical frameworks, strategies, and tools that give people something concrete to work with, along with opportunities to practice, adapt, and apply what they’re learning to real situations at work.

Everything DiSC®
A practical, accessible framework for building self-awareness and understanding differences in how people communicate, work, and interact. DiSC can be used with individuals or teams and is especially useful for creating a shared language and framework that people can continue using together.

Assessment & Recommendations
Sometimes an organization knows something isn’t working but doesn’t yet have a clear picture of why. I take an objective look at the situation, gather perspectives from the people involved, and help separate the symptoms from what may actually be driving them. I then provide leadership with clear findings and recommendations for how to address the challenges and move forward effectively.

These approaches can stand alone or be combined as part of a more comprehensive development engagement.

Common reasons companies bring me in

A manager is struggling to make the shift from doing the work to leading the people.
They may be holding onto responsibilities they need to delegate, avoiding difficult feedback, struggling to hold people accountable, or finding it hard to step back and develop their team.

A strong employee is ready for more, but something is getting in the way.
They may be excellent at what they do, but need to strengthen how they communicate, work with others, navigate relationships, or influence people to increase their effectiveness and reach the next level.

A team is struggling with communication, collaboration, or alignment.
Peers may be struggling to get each other’s buy-in, competing priorities may be pulling people in different directions, or communication and friction may be getting in the way of the team’s ability to accomplish its goals.

A critical employee is struggling, and losing them would be costly.
They may know the business inside and out, have expertise that took years to build, or carry knowledge no one else on the team has. The company wants to address the challenges the employee is facing and give them a real opportunity to get back on track.

Something isn’t working, but the reason isn’t clear.
Leadership may be seeing higher turnover on a team, ongoing conflict, goals that aren’t being met, or hearing concerning but vague feedback about an employee or manager. An objective outside perspective can help uncover what’s happening, what may be driving it, and what may need to change.

About my approach

For more than a decade, my work in HR and people development has put me alongside employees and leaders as they navigate the realities of work. Along the way, I’ve consulted with more than 50 organizations across a wide variety of industries on their people and workplace needs.

That experience means my understanding of workplace development isn’t just conceptual. I’ve seen firsthand the competing demands managers are balancing, the conversations happening behind the scenes, the expectations that aren’t always said out loud, and the human dynamics that can make seemingly simple workplace challenges anything but simple.

Let’s talk about where development could make a difference in your organization.
